Outline
of a project using 'Alice in Wonderland.'
I
am a remedial drama teacher.
I use theatre games, exercises and improvisation as
a means of exploring potential, effectiveness and
building confidence.
Using
a script of 'Alice in Wonderland' as a template. (I
have written a musical drama version).
I will create and expand on the scenes through the
use of improvisation to deal with the issues below.
Issues.
Violence, bullying, anger-rage, drug addiction, alcoholism,
suicide, grieving, spousal abuse, elder abuse, poverty,
homelessness, fear and lack of self confidence, communication
problems, competitiveness, racism.
Synopsis
The Mad-hatter is a hypochondriac/drug dealer who
also turns Alice onto drugs. She is a runaway who
is chasing the white rabbit.... An illusory figure.
The Duchess is an elderly man who is also a cross
dresser.
The Queen is an alcoholic racist, tyrant and bully
who chops everyone's head off. Her husband is a frightened
diminutive man who ends up chopping her head off after
being pushed too far by her.
Because of her tyranny none of the characters are
able to express themselves and communicate freely.
The tea party is a highly dysfunctional affair.
The house where the Duchess and screaming baby is
also a highly dysfunctional situation.
The baker is a thief.
The Mock-turtle constantly talks and sings of suicide.
Throughout the journey Alice discovers herself and
finds out who she is. Through her empathy towards
others she learns how to help them. Her level of confidence
increases and her loving bond with others opens the
door to a spiritual life.
The King also has a spiritual awakening and begins
to practice goodness.
The grand finale is a musical extravaganza.
The very end is a stark solo dance of the soul finally
free.
The
dances and music will be either created by the participants
or choreographed and written by professionals. Poetry
will be written by the participants and woven into
the final production.
The entire project will be videotaped and edited for
the web.
